New type 3 dummy here, if I am using an aftermarket header, will type 1 heater boxes work on a 64 notch?

NO
Just about nothing external from a T-1 will work with a T-3.

Thanks for the tip. Is there a body clearance issue or is it the attachment to the fan to the problem?

Attachment to the fan housing, and the cooling tin under the engine. They also may not be the right length.

Yup, all the above. The t-1 heat exchanger is about 2.5 inches too short on one side and closer to 3 inches on the other. I know, because I modified a set for my son (he asked me if I could try), but the right heater control cable keeps trying to ground out on the starter. Rolling Eyes I still have to fix that somehow. Shocked

There is a plastic cap that snaps over the starter connection that prevents the heater box cable from shorting out on the connection. Most newer type 3's have them (or at least the automatics do). You could probably rig up a cover from any plastic cap or rubber boot.

It was just the automatics, but would work on others.

There it is on a junkyard tranny w/starter.
If you want it bob, let me know.
I think I owe you anyway.

I was just thinking I'd rework the arm on the heat exchanger, or even add a new piece to it to help it clear. Wink I do appreciate the offer though Russ. Cool But he's got a few other things going on with the car at the moment, so it's pretty low on the need to do list. Very Happy Besides, he still needs to hook up the hoses to the body AND heat exchangers. Rolling Eyes
