i just picked up a set of pedrini's that i want to get powdercoated and i was curious what method is safe for stripping aluminum without damage. i have access to a glass beader but wasn't sure if that would take away alot of material while being shot. i used chemical strippers on body parts before but never really liked the results plus i wasn't sure if that would affect the powdercoating process. thanks for the help, jake. |

Bead blast them, you may need to sand them smoother after blasting if your going for a smooth gloss finish. I use a DA with 320 grit paper and sand as much as I can with the DA, the areas the DA won't reach has to be done by hand. _________________ If your not workin or cleanin your not looking hard enough. |

If they just have regular liquid paint on them just sand blast them. We blast everything including aluminum with about 50 grit aluminum oxide before coating. If it is rough when you get it back from the coater after that it's because the coater did something wrong. They really should be blasted right before they get coated if at all possible.

IT just might be easier for you to take the wheels to a place and let them prep them for paint? |
