adjusting shifter

My 66s shifter is really sloppy and I need to know about adjustments. I did search but came up with 16020 different topics. Maybe somebody can give us iliterates an idea on how to search I put in shifter adjusments and thats when 16,020 topics came up.Thanks

CHECK THE BUSHING INSIDE THE TUNNEL JUST BEHIND WHERE THE SHIFTER MOUNTS

Big lip on the guide plate goes up and to the right.
Check the wear in the coupling at the trans.
Use a stock shifter.
check the socket that the shifter pivots in for wear.
