I would like to replace my old worn out oil breather valve, pvc valve, whatever you want to call it. Part number is 071 115 327. This number is not showing on any parts source search engines... has it been superceded by another part number? Will another unit from a different engine work? This is for Vanagon type-4. If anyone knows the low-down on this matter, I would be most appreciative..... _________________ '80 VW Westfalia

It has been superceded to part # 030 115 327A
The only dealer I could find listing it in inventory is:
SPEEDCRAFT VOLKSWAGEN
WAKEFIELD,RI 800-782-3189
You may be able to order it from your local dealer. |

been informed by nearest VW dealer (Speedway in Victoria) that this part is NLA by VW. Am I getting the runaround? I am thinking of trying another dealer, as it has been in my experience that some dealers are more air-cooled friendly than others....
What are some alternatives to this part if I can't find? What are some things people have done to replace this part? _________________ '80 VW Westfalia

If your dealer won't do it for you, I would call up that dealer in RI and have them send it to you. |

....so, I "bothered" four more VW dealers in a radius search, and one had the courtesy to inform me what Karl already did (thanks Karl!):
"The 071115327 was ss'd by the 030115327A in 1986 ,but then the 030115327A was discontinued in 1999. There is one dealer in the states that show one still in stock, and you would have to contact them directly.
www.speedcraftvw.com"
Upon phoning them this morning: "I show ZERO in stock" bummer. (Maybe someone beat me to it, unless mistake in inventory)
Does anyone out there know if these valves are "serviceable"? Looks like they aren't, but I'd be willing to try. Any valves from different engine compatible? _________________ '80 VW Westfalia

You don't need it, but the breather can't be plugged, just make sure it doesn't leak air. The round one way valve isn't needed
see here's mine:

MA, so you're just running a pipe straight from the case to your intake boot? Any concerns about excess oil consumption? Thanks. _________________ '80 VW Westfalia

Doesn't work that way. its just a sort of vent for the engine, you do get a small amount of oil, but it is very small and happens over a long time, so it really is unnoticable. _________________ My Art:

Ummm, fighting... base... impulse.... spray.... Gum-out.... in the breather valve... Argghhh!!!
Dumb idea? Like you said, the valve is probably fine, I know it's not clogged as I am getting oil (little) sucked into the throttle body (probably what's been rotting my intake boot). I have had PCV valves replaced on numerous cars I've had in the past, and I thought it would be a good idea to try and track one down, but seeing as that is impossible, I need to work with what I have. I will definitely replace the o-ring that seals the valve to the case, mine's hardened up. Know an on-line vendor that pushes one?
Thanks. _________________ '80 VW Westfalia

Does anyone know where (a website, dealership, ect) that has the Oil Breather Valve (PVC breather valve) for an air-cooled vanagon?
Please! I've looked everywhere and can't find one.
This place is out of stock: http://www.germansupply.com/home/customer/product.php?productid=16820&cat=348&page=8
p.s.
Is there even an option for cleaning it? Has anyone ever done that before? |

How many threads are you going to post this same question in? Must be 4 or 5 at this point when one would have been plenty. |

Hello Vanagon owners,
I came across a new breather, 030 115 327 A. It's still in the parts bag. I'd love to sell it at a fair price. VictorB at NewportMotorsports.net |
