I was looking at a '66 Kombi a while ago, and noticed the rear wheel wells were cut up in an arc to mimic the front. This was very disappointing, because I love the straight across wells. Anyhow, I was wondering if I had a skilled welder (not myself) weld in replacement sheet metal, grind down the seam and then have it primed and painted over, would it show? I would hate to pass up the bus, but can't stand the wells. Thanks for any help.

This is a common repair. You will want to use donor bus metal, not repop. A little filler will be necessary to get the repaired area flat and this is an easy place to cause warpage so be sure you have it done by someone who knows how to work with large flat panels...there are some tricks to holding everything flush and plumb during the process also.
