Are there any really good restoration books out there that cover the while gamut of restoration jobs? I mean from Rust/Bodywork through Engines, Interior, Wiring and Paint. If there isn't a good all inclusive, are there any titles in specific areas that really impressed you? Sorry if this doesn't belong here, but this seemed like the closest match. Thanks for any advice. |

I picked up this book:
How to Restore Classic Car Bodywork: Tips, Techniques & Steps by Step Procedures (Veloce Enthusiast's Restoration Manual Series). Its written by Martin Thaddeus.
Its actually pretty good at describing how to do relatively major body and rust repair on older cars. Its not VW specific at all, but its got some good explaination and color photos of how to tackle various types of jobs common in any restoration.
It was just a little of $20 on Amazon. You can take a look at a few sample pages in the book off their site to see if its what you're after. You may also want to Google "Veloce" and find their site. They publish quite a few car repair focused books and I've found the quality of the books and the authors they choose is usually pretty good.
Another decent book I found was:
VW Beetle & Transporter: Restoration Manual by Lindsay Porter. Its got some good material on the bus, its design, and changes through the years. It doesn't really focus on the specific details of how to go about doing things necessarily though. Unfortunately, I could only find it in hardcover and again off Amazon it was $25.
