Well the guy doing the body work for my car says that my body is really giving problems (lots of rust, not lots of usuable metal) and he said he found a clean 68 body in nc for $500, my car is a 1970, he would put all my doors and fenders back on it but i guess i would have to change the hood, personally i always liked the earlier model hood more but i donno, it kinda feels like it would be a kit car... do you think i should do it, put a 68 body on 70 chassis, im sort of leaning toward doing it, and my car is going to be custom anyways... so what are your inputs? _________________ WRX Blue 1970 VW Fastback

if you want an early look why don't you just find an earlier (pre-'69) car? or you could just bolt up that early complete body to your later pan. _________________ '54 Kombi | '57 356 Coupe | '57 Samba | '62 Notchback | '63 Beetle (36k Original Miles) | '66 Pigalle Sunroof Squareback | '70 Westy |

hey dud if your 70 is that bad maybe it would be better to get the other car I dont believe that the 70 fenders and hood will fit the other car I THINK the late car is longer in the front but the rear fenders although wrong will fit as will the decklid I would go for it save the older car although i am partial to the earlier ones JMHO |

thats what i was saying was to bolt the 68 body plus the hood then add my 70 doors and fenders...
i thought the only difference was the hood? hmm well the thing is my car is at a shop getting the body work done so it can be painted, and i am not going to switch cars now, so its just deciding, i am leaning toward doing it... here is the donor 68...

Why not just bolt the '68 body complete onto your pan? That would probably be less work in the long run. If the '68 doesn't have fenders, they are probably available on here. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

$500 is actaully a really good deal for a complete body! If you're ok with that body style I'd go for it. I think this would totally simplify your situation. I've been doing body work for many many hours on my current project, and if you don't have the time and experience, and means of doing it properly it will get very donting, or expensive unless you know somebody. Not only that the average person (body guy) won't realize how much you love your car...I'd hate to see you pay for some crap body work because the guy can't handle the typical amount of fender/channel/rocker/upper hood/ etc rust. I am still removing some monkeys body work from the previous owner! I say start fresh and totally bypass all that head ache, especially if it's as bad as it sounds. Trust me you'll be even more happy when you have a body with no rust, and no mickey mouse patch ups!
I'm also a fan of the 69 and under body style though! Theres my 2 cents!
Good luck on your decision! _________________ Fuel injection is the DEVIL!

So what kind of rust damage is there? How's the pan? Is your body guy a friend?
Tip: If you're getting a shop to do it and it's a cash deal, make sure to get the plan, budget, materials to be used, and every little detail on paper and signed by the tech, when I was a young lad I got burned pretty bad in this type of situation and the shop was a really good shop (apparently).
From there the only way to get the job done how you want it is to
a) Spend a lot of money!
b) DO IT YOURSELF (why not the only way to learn)
Takes some time to learn but with guy's like Russ and the rest of the crew around you got tons of resources!
Good luck on this I feel your pain! (Damn it I love Fastbacks) _________________ Fuel injection is the DEVIL!
