Spotted a whole gaggle of backyard iron in the Yucaipa or Calimesa foothills this weekend near a ranch and a senoir citizen center. 2 Squarebacks, a type 34 Ghia and a few bugs, including a split and and oval. Hope they don't get reduced to iron oxide or scrapped. looks like they've been there awhile.
Also saw a trailer on another ranch that had wide 5 smoothie wheels.

There's a guy in Weatherford TX that has a couple of Ghias and Busses setting at the end of his driveway. He has 15ft hedges around the yard so you can't see in. If you go up the driveway he has a couple more Ghias, 2 356's, an early Rolls Silver Ghost and a Rometsch. The guy is in his 80's and is bed ridden. His live in nurse answers the door and says that he keeps saying "I'm going to fix them up one of these days."
One of these days, he's going to keel over and I hope I make it to the estate sale!!

What a waste! I always hate to hear stories like this.

However, with 2 T3's, a Bug & a KG on my property, it sounds like my future.
Confused
At least a friend convinced me to sell the T1 motor that I built and shelved for 2 years.

Sometimes, it's difficult to face the truth and let go.

With the right approach these old timers will let some of their collection go! You just have to know how to talk!

It is actually in Beaumont, near Mile High Ranch. Notchboy & Type3nut64, PM me with your E-mail and I can send you the map we used when we went camping. If it was sombody's good cars I wouldn't, but whoever owns them obviously isn't doing anything with them, despite their good intentions, and they need saving.
Type3nut64, are you the guy who lives on 5th Street, near County Line road with like 3 Fastbacks and a Beetle?

NO, I am up on California st.

All my stuff is tucked away in the back. There is a guy up here that has a huge yard full of busses. He has advertised here on the samba before so I know he knows what he has.

Made the trip cruised through the hills when i saw the unmistakeable lines of a no not a type 34 but a corvair. I was pretty sure i was in the right place, so i looked around a little bit just to find a vw pan, and an auto tranny. Probably meaning the type 3s were later.. Not sure if there was an actual split or an oval there, but i got a number from the daughter who says there are some parts still out there! Crying or Very sad all in all it was worth it cause i located another yard full of VWs including a 3 67 beetles, a panel, a single cab or 2, and about 10 in the back that i could not see what they were.
