The carb on my single carb notch has been flooding. So I put on my spare carb and guess what? It also floods. When took the spare off the car last summer it didn't flood.

Could this therefore be a problem with the fuel pump not the carbs? Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

I too have the single-sided factory carb and it also leaks. I was told that possibly previous work may have attributed to the "butterfly" not being aligned correctly.

Have you had any liuck fixing your flooding issue? If so, what was/is the remedy?

Have you found anyone who works on this type of carb?

I'm also looking for the boot that connects from the carb to the oil bath; any suggestions?

As you can see I'm a new type 3 (and air-cooled) owner. Thanks for any info you guys can provide.

Flooding and leaking are 2 different things. Smile

If it floods, is the fuel shutoff screwed into the top cover of the carb. working?

If it leaks, you have a leak, where does it leak from? I'm guessing you need new seals, need the throttle shaft rebushed, or some other part resealed.

I don't think the butterfly would affect anything. It only fits in the one way? Your choke could be misadjusted which would make it run rich if the choke doesn't open all the way.

The boots are hard to find. I was selling an aircleaner with the boot for $70 with no buyers...

It leaks out of the port where the boot connects from the bath to the carb. The boot is warped from fuel leaking over time.

How do I verify of the fuel shuttoff is actually working? Is there a test I can perform? Yes I am a rookie. Smile

If I wanted to swap my carb, I'd want to swap my air-clearner too yes? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Yes, it sounds like maybe your fuel bowl is overflowing and spilling gas.

There is a shut off where the fuel enters the top of the carburetor. If you unscrew the top of the carb and look underneath, you will see a valve screwed into the bottom side. It has a little pin that moves up and down. It should move smoothly and when pressed in, it should off the fuel flow. If doesn't move smoothly, clean or replace it. Replace it if possible.

The plastic float pushes on it so if the float has a lot of wear (you will se a mark where it pushes on the valve), it might not press it enough to shut off the flow. If the float has too much wear, it will have to replaced.

This is an inherant problem to these carbs. The idle cut off(electromagnetic) and mechanical cut off (float) are not enough to stop the weight-pressure from the gas tank. I have had this problem with my 63 as of late now that Im driving and filling the tank to capacity more. You need to eithor stop filling it to the top or park the car on a slight incline with the tank lower than the carb. I filled my case with fuel not to long ago due to my incline (slight) on my old driveway. I bantered back and forth with Russ over this. The only other cure is the 65 dual carb back pressure "T". I was not aware of that, I guess I was lucky never to have that problem. I haven't had a single carb. car that I drove a lot.

Assuming you have an original 61-65 fuel pump, another option would be to install a later fuel pump since those have a built-in shutoff valve too.
