That's a damn sexy car you've got there. Is it original?

When I purchased the car, it was still in original paint, except that several fenders had been repainted in a not so great match. The car also had a fairly large number of door dings. So, after some agonizing, I decided on an exterior repaint. The interior paint as well as the paint under the hood was pristine so no problem getting the right match. Also I used new gulf blue fender beading from Wolfsburg West. The engine had been rebuilt before my purchase but using the original case so serial numbers still match. Also have birth certificate obtained by previous owner. Since the repaint, the car's become a total head turner.

I also have a 71,000 mile original '65 ghia which I'll get some pictures of up here shortly.

I have a 63 hardtop and it sounds like the condition your car was is how my car is right now, excepting the fact that she had an external repaint in the 70s. She has several dings that need correcting and needs a new repaint. The interior paint is near pristine so would you recommend leaving it alone? What did you do?

In regards to VW Baron's question, my interior paint was perfect so there was never any consideration to doing anything with the interior from a paint standpoint.

Thanks for the reply! So how did you prevent overspray? Did you remove the windows and use cardboard (or somesuch) to shield the interior? How far into the door jamb and such was repainted?
