Make sure it is in neutral then short accross the + terminals. Dont hit it with a hammer on the starter body__magnets inside crack one and.....

If it will spin the starter when you jump the solenoid on the starter body, then either the solenoid is shot or the starter switch is shot (or a loose connection is rearing its ugly head).

Try breaking, cleaning and making all the contacts in the circuits (high amp and low amp). A little petroleum jelly on the contacts before you assemble helps compat future corrosion.

If a screwdriver or heavy wire from the lead from the battery at the starter, jumped over to the solenoid lead makes the starter work then it is definitely the switch. If doing the jump only makes "clicks" with no spinning of the starter then the solenoid is fine but the starter is fried.

G'luck

Mike!

p.s. a low battery often causes the solenoid to click but won't have enough juice to spin the engine over!
