Good looking bus and a very clean rack, but you do know this is the split bus forum, right? I don't really care, but someone else would likely point it out to you, and quite possibly with less tact than I. _________________ nothing |

Indeed. However, this being a thread about bus racks... I posted it. The rack itself can be used on either variety of buses. Of course, if my splitty wasn't a single cab, that'd be where I'd put that rack.
If it bugs anyone too too much, I'll delete it and post in the baywindow forum. I'm on this forum for fun, not to piss people off. But then again, if someone hates it that much, they can ask Everett to remove it for inappropriate content... _________________ '69 Bay Window Deluxe

Picked up a BeKoWa rack recently. It needs some touch up but great overall. I haven't clamped it down yet, this pic was just a test fit.

I’ve just finished restoring my rack – it’s shown in its original condition somewhere in this thread.
The design is perhaps not the best; using roof feet to carry the load instead of the gutter rails. I think this was intended more as a light duty touring rack than an industrial load carrier.
There are only known to be two other rack of this design out there. They were possibly made by Brownchurch (?) for Devon and this is probably from the late 50’s _________________ Dec 62 RHD Tintop Caravette MGR / PW (1 P/O)

cool rack there.
Anyone have an idea what kind of clamps I can use on THIS rack :
I took it off a panel split bus that has been sitting for ages, so I'm pretty certain it's a relatively period correct roof rack. It was on a European bus.
I'm thinking of using it, but I don't have clamps |

I have that same rack but the tag is just a sticker, is your tag a riveted on metal plate? |
Mine is riveted on, I tried to get a close up...

Finally picked up a single cab rack I purchased almost six months ago. Took possession this past weekend at the VW Classic in Socal. I need the clamps if anyone has some available. And yes, I've looked and don't want the ones that are for sale. |

It looks like the HWE/Bekowa style clamps might work if they were shortened? The angle would be different than what they are designed for, so they might need more work than just shortening.

What color/paint are people using on their roof racks, mine is starting to rust and I need to paint it. Probably silver... _________________ 1966 Velvet Green Standard |

I did mine in metallic silver, looks good, but I should have waited, now I wish I would have done it in RUBY RED to match stock wheels. I think I'm gonna paint SC matt black.. that would looke better IMO. Go this what you want, not what everyone else is doing. I'll probly redo it when I paint it. _________________ 71' Bus "Sunshine"

When I got my home brew rack, it didn't come with clamps. I tried to source some clamps that would work but in order to use any of the pre-existing clamps out there, I would have to either spend some big bucks or make modifications. So I decided to make my own. I used 16 gage for the outside clamps, a thinner gage that was easy to shape (22 I think) for the inners and some bolts, lock nuts and washers. I just made a pattern, cut and shaped on the bench vise and drilled holes. Works like a champ and all for around 20 bucks in supplies from the local box store. Tough to beat for 8 legs. The backs look loose but that's just because the tubing is pinched at the base. I can assure you, this rack is going nowhere.

Yeah this is not a rack but it goes with a rack.... I'm thinking resting it on the deluxe trim is not the best idea
