Thanks for the reply.
What about that hole in the bottom by the light? Is that just a hole or should I hang the little tree air freshener from there? _________________ Paul

Good question. I've seen different style camper curtain rods attached there. I hang my cross-the-cab curtain holder there in one of my busses. Maybe someone with a cab divider will say that it's functional. Don't get the dome light wire stuck under the spring strip. |

Iam about to do my overhead vent seals and found this thread. From the looks of 74 Cosas last above photo the side vent flaps move all the way to the side and cover the side grills?? Mine have about an inch or two of space when turned to the side positon, somebody has been in there before and I hope just put it back together wrong. Are the flaps supposed to make contact with the inside of the grill to stop the air flow? Thanks to all of you guys that posted the pictures and write ups, very helpful. |

Yes they are supposed to slap up against the louvers to seal and direct the air rearward. Probably the rubber seal is falling down and apart causing that gap: common. |

Meanwhile, in the same vicinity of the bus …
My plunger doesn't plunge. Note broken end opposite the c-clip.
Anyone have a pic or know measurements of the original piece or how to hack a DIY replacement?
Thanks _________________ 1960 grey panel |

No, Barry, that looks like an A71.

Oh, yeah, cha bro. So right.
I fell for the "12mm" part of it thinking that's how long it was. Sheesh. A71 doesn't tell you diddly about length. |

A72, the spring, is 32 mm long and about 6 mm ID.
The remains of A71 that I have are 32 mm x 5 mm, round, black plastic …
I can reproduce something that works for me, but I need to see what an original piece looks like unbroken. _________________ 1960 grey panel |

That will do nicely. Thanks!
I can extrapolate from this and figure out something that will work. _________________ 1960 grey panel |

And now I present for your amusement -- one over-engineered vent flap pin thingy:
Cobbled together from sundry hardware left over from an RC crawler project.
I might replace the stainless ball joint piece with a plastic equivalent if it's too hard on the opposing metal surface… or my ears. _________________ 1960 grey panel |

This thread is excellent and took some of the mystery out of the few words that the Bentley manual had to say on the subject.
I've started this project, and will post a variety of (hopefully) helpful pictures and words on the experience when I am done. That'll be awhile, but before Thanksgiving...
Inexperienced question:
To get some of the old directional flap cleaned up, and the old flap material off, I have steel-wooled and sanded down to bare metal in part.
Should I/do I need to spray paint these parts?
What about the ones that have rust (like the flap part); how "clean" should I be getting these?
Lastly; the right adjustment screw which holds the flap to the controller rod broke. Easy to find part at a hardware store? Suggestions?
Thanks!

Definitely would remove rust and paint.
You could have your local powder coat shop sand blast the pieces, spray on a marine zinc primer and color coat in black or what ever suits your fancy.
Or do it yourself at home with phosphoric acid till clean of rust, rinse and dry, high content zinc primer and use a good quality spray paint.
Screw should be an easy hardware store or fastener supply shop. Next time, do not just go for broke like that. Instead try wiggling the screw tighten/loosen a tiny amount back and forth to get it to move. Before just trying to turn it all the way loose. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

The piano wire hinge on one of my flaps is busted. Anyone ever have any luck banging the old one out and new wire in? Any idea on the size?
