I know that items for these vans are hard to find and sometimes considered priceless. Which gets me to my question. What would you pay for a engine bay matress for an 82 westie. Ive been searching for sometime know without luck and will probably grap the first one to come along but I still dont want to be taken. What is a good price? _________________ 82 Westy: Air is cool!

Do you want an original? Any good car upholstery place can make you a new one. Better than an old musty one someone had in the garage and you'd be very lucky if it matched your existing z-bed material. I've seen them on Ebay for 45-50 bucks, I wouldn't go over 75.00 for a used one.
In the future, who knows when, I'd like to recover my z-bed and get a new rear cushion made with the same material. Mine's a little ratty with age. |

| Eight years ago, I had an upholsterer redo the corduroy rear seats and mattress pad of my '86 Wolfs Westy Wkndr in saddle colored vinyl (like the type used on the front seat side panels) sewn to match the stock pattern. Lots easier to keep clean w/ kids, food spills, dogs, and dump runs. $300 well spent. Plus, the original materials later went to a friend to redo her Wkndr. |

I made a rear cushion for an old camper with about $35 in materials - that foam is kind of expensive, but it wasn't hard to sew up a matching cover...again, if you don't care if it's original or not...I also made mine about an inch thicker than stock...extra comfort can't hurt.

Z- bed is what the folding rear seat/bed in a Westy is called. Why it's called that I don't know.
Here's the well worn Z-bed in my Westy:
