O.K. Folks, So I bought a roached out oval. It had ben parked for years with hay stacked on top and the top and cowl is rusted beyond repair. I've done some body work before, but I'm not pro by any means. It looks to me if I drill out spot welds under the rear engine cover, Then grind a little on the raingutters and make my front cut and drill out more spot welds the top and dash clip should come out. Is this correct? Any tips or Hints? I 've found anoyher unsavable oval donar car. Thanks Gizmo |

That sounds about right. I think you can separate the fold-over on the rain gutter with a proper air chisel. But I've never done this and am not a bodyman, just going off memory from what I've heard others have done before.
One thing you might want to look into - I'm pretty sure the factory procedure for this is in the VW 1200 1952-1957 manual that Bentley republished a few years ago. I know in my 61-65 VW1200 Bentley manual it shows just about every section of the car being cut off and replaced. It's an expensive book but it's worth it if you plan on restoring the car.
