|
|
I am asking, because i dropped the front of my 64 notch the same amount of clicks as my friends 67 squareback. My front was converted to disc brakes and his is obviously stock like that. We originally test fit his 145's and i had no real rubbing issues. Now, i put 145's on my stock rims and i rub like crazy. So we looked at both cars side by side, and his stock wheels are actually in about 1 1/2 inches from the fender, and mine only about 1/2 inch. I wonder if when the previous owner converted it, something changed or maybe the disks are thicker. I don't know if that sounds stupid or not, but any help would be appreciated. |

the disc brakes put the wheels out more from the center line of the car. _________________ One man's "patina" is another man's cancer...

It's possible that during the conversion, that the PO didn't use stock t-3 rims. This would reduce the back space, causing the tire and rim to move outward. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

So, T3 stock rims are different than T1 stock rims? That may explain it. I know the disks push ot the rims a bit more, but my friends 67 has disks and he is tucked in about an inch deeper on each side than me. How can i tell if i have stock T3 rims? Any numbers on them? Let me know. Thanks |

In the lug bolt face part of the rim (under the hub cap) you should find some numbers stamped (date code, and the rim size and offset). What you're looking for is the ET number, and it should be 46. A t-3 rim will have (for example) 3 69 (with the 3 above the 69 in a circle), 4.5 and ET 46. The 3 69 is the date, the 4.5 the rim size, and ET 46 being the offset.
Depending on the type of conversion, some will cause the rotor to move outward a 1/2" on both sides. If the conversion was done with stock parts, then there shouldn't be a change in the track width. I hope this helps. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

What Bob said only counts if the rims also have The VW logo on them. There were some aftermarket wheels that werent marked. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey
