|
|
Hey guys I've just bought a Fastback which should be arriving a week tomorow I've just got a few questions for you.
Firstly how much quicker (if any) is this car going to be than my 1300 1972 Beetle? Will I notice the difference?
Secondly I'm buying the car with everything i pieces, the body and floorpan are solid but it just needs to be rebuilt, how challenging is this going to be? any suggestions of any manuals which may help me out?
Lastly would it be possible to fit older bumpers to my 1972 model?
Many thanks, Greg. |

1. Probably none
2. You will notice how much nicer a drive it is.
3. You'll need the Bentley for your car, plus the idiot book and any other manual you can find; I have a couple of Chilton's also
4. Yes it's possible, see Mr. Bubblehead's square...
BTW - welcome to the obsession... _________________ póg mo thóin

Welcome to the addiction. T3's are much sweeter to drive and are more stable. The ride is nicer (heavier car) and there is much more space; both storage and interior. _________________ One man's "patina" is another man's cancer...

Excellant, yeah the fastback does seem more of a car than the beetle. Thanks again, Greg. |

But the white one, I gotto admit, doesn't look too bad. Removing the VW emblem takes your eye away from the boat nose. _________________ One man's "patina" is another man's cancer...

Gee, thanks The emblem isn't just removed, the whole bump that is sits on is shaved off and the hood is much smoother. Here's a straight on shot:

No that's what I meant. It was a sincere compliment. It looks good and really does make the nose smoother by removing the logo and the flat spot associated w/ it. Good metal/body work done and it's a creative way of improving the overall look. _________________ One man's "patina" is another man's cancer...

It's a look I've wanted for years. I had to buy the car when I saw it. I still have more to do to the car. 1) Install early fuel tank and weld the gas door shut; 2) Shave license plate mount on front; 3) Install early rear hatch
Those are the top three. Unfortunately, all of them have to wait until my '65 Notch gets done. _________________

I like the look. It makes me want to shave the hump to go with the emblem on my Roadster 2. The more I look at this car, the more it makes me want to convert. Neil's has bullets, and Mr. Bubblehead's has clear "large" wraps, makes me want to use "thin" early style wraps. I think it would work nice with the look. I've already got them. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Put them on temporary with some tape or hot melt glue and see how they look. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

Nah, just close up the hole in the fender, and screw them on. Add the wires, and they're good to go. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Will it just bolt in? Just curious. Ah, PROJECTS. I have a '66 Westy sitting in my driveway and all these great fantasies about what it will look like "someday". But due to time and $$$ I am just doing basic mechanical fixes/upgrades and driving/camping in it. My focus is on my new '65 Notch which (hopefully) will return from body/paint next month. I guess that's what we do...A lot of friends of mine have completed their cars and are now "bored" and looking for new projects. _________________ One man's "patina" is another man's cancer...

While rebuilding' dont through anything away. It can not be replaced. example -- Type3's had removable plug wire ends at the dist. talk about hard to find. people didn't know the unsrewed and you installed them on the new wires. Save everything untill your done then post what you don't want here for us to fight over. I could kick my self for what i'v let go over the last 25 years. |
