|
|
Hello everyone.
After years of pining over volksrods (something unexplainable cool about them), I finally sold my GTI and picked one up.
It's far from perfect, but what project isn't.
I met the previous owner in Eastern Ohio (he trailered it) and drove it the 350 miles home as a "hello" to my new toy. Here are a few cellphone shots I took on the way home.
Here are a few shots I took with my actual camera at a car show a few days later.
Anyway. Just wanted to say hello, and meet some people over here. I've been a member of the vwvortex forums for years and years, and they aircooled section over there is pretty "blah".
Oh, and one last thing. The car is titled as a 67 and appears to be a 67 based on what I'm reading on here, but it has a 116 start to the VIN (based on the title) which would be a 66. I just find it strange, since so many parts on the car are pointing towards a 67. I suppose the pan could be a 66, if that's where the VIN was pulled from. (I haven't verified it on the car itself). |

Sweet ride!!
The VIN is stamped on the tunnel under the back seat. Hard to tell the year by looking at it, most of the 67 specific items are gone or filled in.
Have you been here?

Lots more Vrods over there.. |

Thanks,
Yes, I'm registered over there too. Have been for a while actually.
I figured this was a more active place for more general questions. There is so much good info on this site.
I'll check the VIN when I get home today. The title very well could be wrong.
The door handles are from a 67, (figured that out today) so at least I know which door panels to order. |

I love the fact this car hasn't been chopped. The stance is right on too. Is it lowered? Extended beam? Trans raise? Swing axle or IRS? I actually have wanted to build one for a long time and think this is the perfect reference! Tire size as well? How does it run with the dual carbs? Brand of carbs? Sorry for all the questions. Shoot if I could get this car from you I would take it lol it is a great mild volksrod |

Nice style... Dual cannon exhaust on Volksrods looks awesome..
The biggest differences in the 66 and 67 main bodies.
67's will have the mounts for the rear "Z" overload spring and the 67 body uses the "Pin" for the door latch.. (same as 68 and newer)

Hard to tell by your dark pics.. but I think I see the 65/66 inside door remote actuator rod (flat piece of steel running toward door pillar) which would indicate 65/66 doors not 67???
Maybe it just the pic..??
FYI.. 67's use the pull tab (like 68 and newer) style inside door handle and have a lock button/knob on the top inner rear edge of the door. Same door panels as 68 and newer.
FYI Late 66 and 67 outside round push button door handles are the same appearence on the outside but have a different mech on the inside. Not interchangeable. _________________ aka Ken {o\!/o}
