Hello, I'm searching detailed pictures of the middle and rear grey seats for my January 64 kombi because I don't understand the difference between 64 and 65-67.
Could someone help me?
Thanks in advance.

I picked up some mint original upholstry seats for the casino kombi last week;
I was pretty exited to get them. I believe they are '62-'63 kombi only. |
1964 is the same upholstery pattern but with the 1964 grab handle and seat style - the fold-down section will fold to the side a little instead of straight forward.
65-67 is the "salt and pepper" upholstery

Hey Everyone, quick question for you - I fixed all the mounting points for my middle seat but am curious about the color I should paint the seat frame - the wolfsburg west color chart says that the frame should be silver-beige
http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/colors/66l680.htm) but almost every picture I see and the seats themselves as they sit now seem to suggest they were black originally.
There are a few pics however of white frames - like the one on page 30 of this thread that cause me to question though. Anyone sure about the seat frame color for a '67 sea blue /cumulus with aero papyrus?
Thanks for the help _________________ '66 SO-42

Thanks EverettB.
It means that the 64 middle seats for a kombi are produced only for the 64. is it right? |

The frame is the same '64-'66. The handles are the same '64-'67. Your '64 is unique in that it has the solid Gray cover that ended in '64. Being a Kombi it has zero heat-pleats or sewn-pleats (not sure if sewing was still done on Deluxe and Standards or heat-seam had started). |

Yes, '64 long seats are 1964 only because 1964 was the last year for the "earlier" colors but also the first year for a new seat fold-down design and grab handles. _________________ How to Post Photos

Since we're on the topic of middle seats, I purchased, many years ago, a middle seat for my '58 PGSG. I believe it's a '59 through '61 middle seat. It has the metal grab handle with the white plastic cover. I was fortunate and only paid $250 for it. I figured finding a genuine '58 middle seat was slim to none. I have always wondered if there was a big difference between the two. On a positive note, I was fortunate enough to find a '58 rear seat out of a junk '58 PGSG bus last year. |

The vinyl grab handle cover is 1960-61, if I remember right. |
I think the vinyl grab bar cover was much shorter lived, something more like 6 months of 61 production year.
They were a late add, immediately before the grab bar change in early May '61. _________________ The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge

My mid Nov 60(61 model year) caramel seat has a white painted grab bar. Pretty sure it's original. Same owner since 63.

I am not sure of the relevance, but the only surviving grab bar cover I know of is on a March 61 de Luxe 15 window.
Possible it is a de Luxe only feature?
Coondog - is your seat upholstery with the grab bar cover Blue Grey or Caramel? _________________ The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge

Thanks for the info! Now, do any of you know where I can purchase the material to recover the '58 middle seat? I believe it's "soft green". I heard there was a company in Japan that sold a material that was close to the original in color. If I can find some material I also need to figure out how much to purchase. I'm going to recover front, middle and rear. |

The had an ad on here for a while, I can't seem to find it right now. Also, you can just call Octavio down in Orange County, he makes the seat covers as well as Douglas Denlinger or of course lenny at west coast classics. _________________ - Chris
