I found this listed in the general parts section on Sunday as a mysterious 36hp distributor. It is 100% NOS complete with cap, rotor, condensor, points, and coil wire. I ended up getting it for $50 from a guy only 20 minutes from me in Toronto!!! I paid $40 + shipping and duty just for my other distributor cap!!

You are one lucky SOB.
BTW, I got my distributor caps and rotors for mine the other day. They were a little pricey, but they were available from Bosch, NOS. I have one for each distributor, and one spare. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

You've got to appreciate how scarce this stuff is up here in Canada. Besides that, stock restorations just don't seem to be appreciated up here I find. People at shows just don't seem to appreciate the details that go into making a car completely original. I can't tell you how many people have asked why I haven't had the squareback repainted yet. They seem shocked when I tell them that I'm leaving it original even with it's flaws.
If I tell someone that I scored an original distributor they usually ask why I'd bother when I can get an 009 for the same price and explain how easy it is to get tune up parts. They don't understand why I'd go through the hassle.
If I don't rub it in here, in the forums, whose faces can I rub it in to? _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

It'll be nicer once you're done with it.
You should get it by the middle of next week. _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

It's only OG once.
I have a black 57 european ragtop Beetle. It has 68,000 original miles and the engine has never been out. Other than brakes and tuneup parts... it's original. There are some scratches and a few small dings. Even the interior is in excellent condition.
My plans are to someday go over all the mechanical systems and detail it.
I'm not painting it or rebuilding it. I'll just drive it as it is.
In another 20-30 years nobody will really know what a original 57 looks like. But I will. _________________ Glenn

Amen. This is the only original aircooled VW I've actually driven. All of my other cars have had the original VW restored out of them. I love them all and I'll never sell them but they no longer have the smell/of the square. _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

You should have heard my wife when she saw how much 3 NOS caps and rotors cost.
You can still buy points that work in them, but they are not like the originals, with the 90 degree leg, and They don't have the provisions for the little adjusting cam.
I even noticed that the Bentley that shows this distributor says that is an oil hole, and it is not. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

BTW... Dave is very fast. I saw that distributor on the Samba and was the 10th view. I PM'ed him about it and he replied that he already saw it and was closing the deal.
I think Dave has a "Distributor Fetish" _________________ Glenn

She does the books. And I have direct deposit, so unless I can sell something on Ebay or the Samba, I have to use the debit card.

You're right. I've got a real problem. Too many ignition systems and not enough motors/cars. I've acquired an NOS boxed Berg S1 system, my 6v Bosch Screamer kit, the NOS Empi Transispark ignition, my Glenn Ring restored 010 with NOS Bosch black 6v, my Mallory Unilite w/Promaster coil and MSD, and my t3 distributor obsession. Now if I could only catch a break for a 383 flat top for the 356. _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

I hate to say it, but when I moved back in '89, I cleaned out the garage. I threw away a bunch of dist. and such, including one of the ones with the wires coming out the side of the cap. _________________ Society is like stew.
