I posted a few old photos in the gallery.

My favorite is the BD with the sailplane flying above it. So which one of you guys owns the original photo?

I wonder where you were on the vehicle owner ladder back then, is that family the equiverlant of the "escalade" owners today?
Basically how much of a rich poser were you to own a samba back then? |

Anchovy,
One of your other photos has a barndoor with the word "Notsitz" on it.
Looked it up, and the translation is "Flap-up Seat".
Or folding seat, I guess.
Anyone have a clue about this?

I thought it was some sort of joke, like you could use the Barndoor decklid or the Barndoor engine compartment as some sort of extra seating if you were desperate |
...or maybe the joke is the engine compartment area is auxillary seating. I think they are saying "emergency seat" not "flap-up seat", but who knows.... |

Thanks for the heads-up Doug....I just picked up that photo on ebay. I hope to see more details when I get the hard copy. I want to see if I can make out what's written on the ballons and the box on the roof rack. |

Vintage photo I got from Germany:
Rear hatch, body bumpers, logos. Looks like a fat base mirror on the hinge.

Nice period photos.
He's a couple a mate found in a postcard fare last year. 'Gem Luxury Coaches', taken outside a B&B in Blackpool. The B&B is still there, shame the same can't be said for the bus though

Hey Mike1973,
I like the lady and the BD photo. Do you have a high resolution scan you can send or post. I am interested to see the headlight detail and the winged logo on the front.
Thanks,
Here's another one of my favorites:

Jeff- What's wierd about that Bus is that it is a "short upper rear vent" Bus which means it's earlier than mid 1951 but it has two reflectors which I thought started in mid 1952. It also has flat lensed bubbles which is ultra cool and if its a 1951 then those taillights are flat out impossible to find. Basically, that is probably one of the first 15,000 Buses ever made right there. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

Not totally impossible to find (I assume you're talking flat glass lenses). _________________

Hey Brendan, I made those same observations. You can also see that the cargo door handle is removed and the deck lid either looks ajar or like it was poorly fixed. This may explain the "addition" of the second reflector. The brake light also looks like the block style rather than the smooth curved style lens. With the mirror mounted on the door hinge the bus has obviously been tampered with....POS! |
