Günther, thanx for your PM! I will probably do a build thread on my 53 later on, when I have enough info and some restoration efforts to show. The funeral you are talking about is probably former Austrian president's Dr. Theodor Koerner, who passed away in 1957. I have seen more photos of this event, showing my truck and some post55 VW sc flower cars and VW buses. I have talked to the archives of the Viennese funeral service and know all their early VW cars. mine is the only BD truck they had.

...well Paella, if you have this same picture as a postcard, then it's possible that pictures AND postcards where sold like this one... Günter thinks it was an old president's funeral so... ?? I send Gunter some info on the Ebay seller that sold 3 pictures to me in may 2009... from this Begräbnis Wink hope to find them back soon!!

yes, it was the funeral of Theodor Körner, 10 January 1957. although it's a postcard, on the back you can read: Echte Fotografie

great info, thanx !
Yes back then you could buy souverniers, even from funerals, as postcards. A lot of postcards in the 50s were real photographs, on photo paper. Yes it is Theodor Körners funeral, 1957. paella, you can keep looking for the other 2 single cabs, but they were 55-57 non BD. the one in the second pic you posted, it's a later one. (rear bumper, looks like the round front roof portion) I have many more pics of those. but if you find them, you will have to give me back my smooth drop gates, because I have one of the later sets (with their matching license plate number painted on Shocked ) from the other 2 trucks. They must have interchanged the gates unfortunately.. Sad

no it get's scrapped unfortunately when a registration of a car is canceled and the car sold on.
but it was the same plate, as long as it stayed with the same owner. it is also registered in the car title. so you can 100% identify your car on old pics.

after a close look at the second pic, I have to say you are right. But this was the only single cab at the Theodor Körner funeral, so the pic of the barndoor single cab was not taken there. Which makes sense, if you look at the surrounding. On the pics of one of the later ones, I can see a metal frame for the flowers, does yours still have this frame?
and yes, if i find a later one with your smooth drop gates, we have a deal

thanx for the additional pics and interst in the car. I think you're not quite right with the one flower car. with a president's funeral, I think every flowercar available possibly would have been used. I have seen at least 4 flower cars in a group shot of Körner's funeral, although it is not clear which cars they are. the pic of my SC is a winter shot (snow on roof, no leaves on tree), matches Jan. 57 funeral date, still only semaphores on the truck and the funeral will have taken quite a long trip through town, so the location isn't that important. I have much more information on the flower racks aso. I will start a thread on my truck and we can talk all of that there, I don't want to spoil this thread with non BD pics.

that is crazy ! also to know that mine is one of these again in these pics !
I know everything ( or nearly so) about the 55-57 (58 is not possible, since the funeral was jan. 1957) models. I will post their pics in the build thread of my SC. Thanx Günther, big thanx for finding and keeping these pics. can't wait to see them in person!

thanx, great pics, and really rare.
I have been through some archives and the best I could find are three on one pic. If they have kept their formation, we should see two barndoors from behind
