can someone give me some sound advice on what order to take care of some body work issues? i need to replace pan halves,rear apron front apron work is minor. the driver side front wheel well needs to be replaced from door to front bulk head.pass. side rear well needs to be replaced(lower part). there is a lot of work to do. i don't know if i take the pan off if the car is rigid enough to handle stress. any help useful. thanks-scott

If all of that is rusty, I can't imagine that the heater channels are good. I'd start by taking a real close look at the channels as that will probably be the most time consuming part of the job. If you need channels it may also affect the order in which you do things. So, I'd start by taking out or at least pulling back the carpet that covers the channels.

i have the carpet out.the heater chanels up front from basically the forward edge of the doors to the bulk head will need to be replaced.from the doors back the heater chanels are ok. i don't know if i can repair just the rusted part by cutting pieces or will i have to replace the entire heater chanel?

I wouldn't mess with trying to fix the heater channels, it would probably be more work than doing correctly. I have a bug that needs channels and I've been thinking about the job for two years. Thinking, reading and watching the BugMe Video (Vol. 6 & 7). My plan is to do the channels first, then the pan.

This guy did a lot of welding around the lower end of his bug and made some mistakes we can all learn from. It was after reading about this restorations that I decided never to move the body too far from the pan when welding in new channels or chassis supports.
