Grab a plasma cutter or a diegrinder. Seriously, you'll need to cut in some access holes, that's the only way. Don't cut it from the bottom, cut in from the top, it's easier to cover up with carpet when you're done. What's in the tunnel that needs restoring? Clutch, accelerator or choke cable? Fuel line? _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

Cut from the side to peer in to the left and right. Cutting right on top of the tunnel does not let you see so good left to right. I used a cutting disk to make square incisions as in the diagram below. After the three sided cut was made, I used a hammer and pry bar to pull it down.
Then you can use the hammer to close it back up, then weld it shut. I would only place a few spot welds near the front pedeal cluster in case you need to get in there if its a pre 67 bug. Not all pre 67 bugs came with that option, and its a good idea if you want to get in ther later. |
