i'll just call it the roach look!
i got tired of seeing exposed bondo, surface rust, and primer. i have always wanted to put a flat paint job on my ghia, even before i painted it yellow 6 years ago. so i spent my spring break sanding, stripping, and spackling and came up with this:
i'm happy with it. took a lot of work though, and i didn't have enough time to do it as well as i would've liked, but it is a huge improvement over what it used to look like. tell me what you think.

thanks!
kel,
i'll be there for a while. i live about half a mile from kelley park, so i'm not going to get to cruise with you guys. my mom's in town, and i haven't seen her in about a year, so we're going to be spending the day together. somehow, i did manage to talk her into checking out the car show though! i have no shame.
even though it's the 50th anniversary of the ghia, and they're letting all model years in, i'm not sure they'll let me in if i get there late-- we'll see. |

gene berg was wrong. engine tin is not necessary.
it keeps pretty damn cool without it, but i will build some this summer anyway, and make the apron attachable also. |

looking forward to seeing you at bugorama. jeff's not too keen on having people come by, but make sure you give me a call before the show. we've got to have some beers the night before... but not at the show of course. |

wow, you car looks great. i remember seeing it at the show at mjc in modesto. i used to drive a 62 aspen green and primer ragtop bug back in 2000-2001 when i was in modesto last. i remember semi racing you on mchenry once. i also went to bugorama in sacramento with the rest from horizontally opposed. i remember that we caravanned there. what size engine is that? _________________ Since when do decals add horsepower?! |

i vaguely remember that car... that was a while ago though. that time i raced you, did a cop chase us down and say "no more vw racing!" on his bullhorn? i remember bombing down that street with like 6 bugs all going balls out with their singleports! the cop was really pissed off, because a few had stingers and there was all kinds of noise, but i doubt anybody even broke the speed limit. he probably stomped on his gas pedal for like two seconds and caught up with the pack! that was some funny shit!
now my ghia's got a 2.0liter porsche 914 motor in it with the 3 bolt heads. sometime this summer i hope to build a bigger one. this motor just will not quit, despite my abuse, but i need more than 90 horses. hope to see you around at some shows. |

no, it was just me and you. it was right where burlington coat factory is at now. you had a 1776 then if i remember correctly. i had a 1500 single port , i think i had the zenith carb on it then. i am aiming for the show in madera this weekend but the asparagus festival is this weekend also (gotta take girlfriend, she is an asparagus freak). im driving a black 56 hardtop, its kinda a beater right now. i have some black recaros in it and a bride racing steering wheel. i have a GEX (bought a used engine from the recycler on 9th street just to get it running, didnt know it was gex until i took it all apart). im gonna go the german look way with if i dont get tired of the small gas tank and lack of fuel gauge. im debating rotary or type 4. hey, if you decide your type 4 motor, let me know how much, i will probably would rather run jake raby's dtm shroud then a porsche cooling shroud. _________________ Since when do decals add horsepower?! |
