I found the door check rods for my 49 deluxe but have no clue how they go in because the mounting spots look like they may have been modified for early oval check rods. Anybody know anything about these? They look exactly like these...
Thanks,

They insert from the inside of the door. Are they just a flat piece of metal with a round bar at the end to form a "T"? _________________ 1947 Type 11a

I found a pic in one of the advertisements where someone is selling them. Looks like the rubber end goes inside the pillar and it attaches inside the door somewhere...though that's a rough guess. So I gotta take off the door panel, which is good anyway because I need to install some more clips in it. The door panel looks to be held on with clips at the corners only. _________________ 49 Deluxe -vFamily cruiser

They don't bolt up to the door anywhere, only in the door jam itself. The "T" end just floats around and the rubber bushing keeps it from slamming inside the door when someone swings it open. _________________ 1947 Type 11a

Alright, I thought I had this figured out. Now I'm confused. The T end goes inside the door and I see no way to mount the other end to anything in my car. There's nothing but a slit in the pillar for the rod to go through. Should there be a bracket or something inside there? _________________ 49 Deluxe -vFamily cruiser

They do bolt onto the door with two M6 bolts. The T end with the rubber is stopped by the inside of the door post. As the door opens it will pull the rubber bumper closer to the inside of the door post and be stopped at the end of its travel.

Thanks. I got the door panels off, located the bolts, removed the sawed off remains of the old check rod straps, and bolted them in. They work great. _________________ 49 Deluxe -vFamily cruiser
