Have you considered having the drums and rotors redrilled instead? It seems like that would cost less as well as avoid any spacing issues.

Wheels can fit, but ve only seen it without adapters, and it was close, id think with the adapters they wouldnt fit. I wouldnt run adapters given half a chance not to. Get em drilled.

I think the 914 2.0 Fuchs look pretty good on a type3 and the fit using the stock 4 bolt lug pattern.

Old thread, I know, but if you could: what size tires on the sixes? Is this an IRS car?

several options:

adapters
drill existing drums for wheels
buy new drums, pre-drilled

Thanks. I called around to ISP West and Pierside Parts and looks like I can get a rear drum adapter from EMPI that converts wide 5 to small 5.

I don't want to do adapters for the front as my car is lowered and don't think I'll have any clearance for the wheels and it'll look funny. Looks like I can do Disc conversion to the front which will cost about $80/pair of spindles and $400 for the rotors, bearings, calipers and new master cylinder.

That is a pretty expensive option to get the Alloys fitted. I might just go with some replicas instead. Damn. I really wanted the real McCoy.

You don't need any of that nonsense to run them on the front. Just get front rotors redrilled. Any machine shop can go 4x130 to 5x130. You can buy them already done. No need for new spindles. You have the easiest vw to put Fuchs on period

Wait, you do have a stock 4 lug disc front beam, correct?

I think he's on wide 5's, since he was looking at an adapter for the rear drums.

Rauschenbach, you do know all you need for the rear, is some 4 lug drums and hubs, that would need to be redrilled right? The rest of the parts are basically the same.
For the front, I'd shop around, and see IF I could get a set of spindles with the rotors still on them, or find a cheaper set of spindles. Same applies with the rest of the disc brake parts you're looking to buy. I only say that, as the rotors are the same as a type 1 Ghia, the re-pop calipers are too, as are the bearings. The master cylinder will be t-3 only, and you could find one in the classifieds, and send it to Jim Adney for rebuilding (or rebuild it yourself). Shop around, as you can cut the price down, since you're using mostly stock parts.
I only say that, as I've got about 600 into my wide 5 disc converion, and 500 of that was the disc kit. Shocked

I just don't realistically think there are many 5 lug 68's out there. Who would do all that work to go backwards. They do make 4lug vw to 5 lug Porsche adapters, which might actually work well in some applications to keep the wheel off the spring plate

If he does have wide 5 I'm willing to trade for my stock disc spindles. I have a whole 4 lug beam actually with new ball joints and bushings. Pm me

The OP of this thread (started back in 2005) had a 68, but rauschenbach (who asked the question recently) has a 65 Notch.

imho stock or fuchs are the only wheels that look good on a type 3.
