When I bought my ghia it had a sticker on the back that said

"Fahrver
F*ckin
Gnugen"

It picqued my curiousity since I'd heard the word before.

I looked it up and it said

"Love of driving."

Sound about right?

close, but yeah. fahr is the root of the verb fahren, which means to drive. and vergnuegen actually means pleasure. so it's really "driving pleasure"

Which is probably the best way to sum up the je ne sais quoi of driving a Volkswagen. Very Happy

Fahrvergnugen was VW's big promotional campaign back in the early 90s...I still have a sticker somewhere...but it spawned a lot of take-offs as well...barelymovin, f*kinbroken, etc...

My wife and I bought matching salmon colored Farvernuegen (sp) T shirts back with the campaign and when those colors were cool (Rolling Eyes ). We wore them once to disney world in Orlando and we were standing in front of these people that started to talk about our shirts. Come to find out, they were german and confirmed that it meant 'A pleasure to drive'. They went on to say, 'We drove VWs when we were in college, now we drive a bmw". I reply was 'sorry to hear of your lowered standards'. Twisted Evil

My T is completely worn out but I still wear hers on rare occasion.

I had a handful stickers made up at BBB recently (who were those guys doing the stickers and selling the coffee mugs???).....

"Farfrumnu"

Got my sticker guy here doing some right now to have for the Classic Weekend*. I might print up a few shirts to go along with 'em . Well stickers for the vintage cars and buses and T's for the vintage drivers.

*mention this "add" for your free sticker... if you find me that weekend.... while supplies last Wink
