Hi, I'm pretty new to the type 3 scene but i just bought a 63 notch. After i picked it up and got on the freeway the front hood popped open, it cought on the secondary latch thankfully and i pulled over. i've tried to adjust it and it seems to need some tension on it to hold it closed. my question is, is there a newer model latch assy. that will bolt on that doesn't have to have tension on it to be closed or am i stuck? The car is pretty low and when i hit a bump it will come open. Thanks for any input.

It sounds like you need to adjust the upper latch, the one on the hood itself.

Or maybe the lower latch is not latching?

My wife's Fastback is like this. You have to manually reset the latch, as the cable tries to hang up keeping it from re-latching correctly. It's no big deal, IF you know that it needs to be done before driving. Shocked I've tried grease, oil, and even cleaning it, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I guess I'll just have to replace it someday. Rolling Eyes

Thanks, yes it's mine and you can find some more pics of the build in my gallery. i've loved VW's since i was a kid, my first car was a 61 bug that i turned Cal look but i've been lusting after a notch for awhile and finally came across one here in the classifieds. It is pretty much a done car, but thats ok because after building my baja i couldn't afford to restore another one right now.
