How far do I have to compress the lever when I replace the diaphram in my 1500s. I know my 40hp pumps are 14mm but I wasn't sure if these were the same. I've heard that the 'S' models were setup with a little higher pressure. As luck would have it I'm missing the first 6 pages from my shop manual covering the fuel pump.
Secondly, what length should the fuel pump rod be? 4.25" or am I dreaming? _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

The pressure of the pump is controlled by the spring. If you are using a T-1 kit, reuse your old T-3 spring. As for depressing the arm, you can use the engine to depress it. Install the pump with the fuel pump push rod on TDC. Now, tighten the screws around the housing. All they are wanting you to do , is make sure you are not stressing the diaphram in operation. _________________ Society is like stew. they should be all the same except for pumps on the T-1's with alternators. And T-2 1700's were the only ones I know of that wore out the pushrods.
I can go out and measure one if you want. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

If you could, it would put my mind at ease. I've had a rough day with this. I picked up a tank of contamenated gas which has caused havac with my entire fuel system. I've had to pull the tank, blow out the lines, rebuild both of my carbs as well as my fuel pump. By late this afternoon it was running better than it ever has until I put the fuel pump back on. I installed a type 1 pump just while I was trouble shooting. Once I had the car purring, I put the stock pump back on and havent been able to get the thing running since. Even when I turn the car over it doesn't sound right. I see a For Sale sign in my future. Not to mention I stink of gas. _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

Just went out and measured the one in my "S". 4.25"
Has someone ground some off of that one to lower the fuel pressure? _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

Do you have another rod?? Let me know, I have them laying all over the place. I use them to plug fuel lines, ETC. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

Me too. I use the 110mm long one for the inlet, and the 100mm (bug w/alt) long one for the outlet. It allows me to keep things straight when it might be a couple of days before reassembly. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
