Anybody out there ever see a notch with a rag top? I was told that the Notch didn't come with one. This looks to be a factory rag. I am about to buy this car so any info would be helpfull! |

Notches never came with a "rag" sunroof. They had steel sunroofs as an option.
The T-34 Ghia even had an electric steel roof, and I have heard of them being transplanted into regular T-3.
The thing I would worry about on any aftermarket sunroof, is water drainage. How are they getting rid of any water that DOES get in under it.
I know a couple people here on this forum that have rag sunroofs in their squarebacks. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

Notchbacks did not come with ragtops from the factory.
I have seen a couple Type 3s with "Golde" ragtops but they were dealer installed or installed later by the owners. These few cars are probably the closest thing that could be considered a "real" ragtop.
I've also seem various custom Type 3s where the owner installed a ragtop. _________________ How to Post Photos

In your opinion do you think it lessens the value of the car? |

It depends on the quality of the kit, and the person that installed it.
One thing to remember, on a custom ragtop. What do you do when the top gets damaged and needs replace?? Who do you go to for parts?? _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

i was thinking of some options on my squareback (that blue thing), and since it's pretty custom and the roof paint is cracking and peeling, i thought it might be interesting to install a ragtop on it and paint the rest of the roof black. i'm not sure if this is a good idea, especiall because i have no metal-working skills, but have access to people with them. it takes a lot of dedication on my part to cut a huge hole in my roof! can't really go back once you've done it. i have the picture windows on the back and think the ragtop would be a great custom addition. i know the cost is very high, so this wouldn't happen too soon, but any thoughts? any pics of people's projects? and which top would fit best for a full length squareback? ...i guess i could go measure it... but i'm thinking a bus one would fit best -thanks, billy _________________ yup, i drive a porsche |

Yes, I do. I used a Webasto/Hollandia Stratos 400 kit. It is very high quality and has never given me any problems with leaks or excessive wind noise. It fit perfectly in my Squareback. Almost like they made it for the car.
Best part of the kit is that it is powered. That's right, one touch open and just hold the little button down to close it.
Here are a couple of pics of the install.
Hardest parts were actually getting up the nerve to drill the starter hole and then cut out the roof panel and getting the headliner installed. The headliner is the one part of the install that I am not completely happy with. I did it myself and it is not too bad, but a professional installer could do a better job.
Here is a link to my page for the entire rebuild.

I'm interested in one for my '60 Mercedes 180D. Don't worry, it's not for a T3! _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

way cool project, i love the sunroof, but i don't need an electric one(mostly because of the cost), and i was also looking to get a true full length top. thanks for the pics, sounds like a pretty big job, and also i think i should have a shop do the headliner for me. assuming i follow through on my idea.... _________________ yup, i drive a porsche |

Let's just say that working in the Research Lab at Ford has its advantages....and leave it at that.
You can still get the kit from a Webasto dealer. It is called the Classic 400 now. You can search for one here:

I think the last time I checked for someone it was about $800, but I think that included installation. _________________ Later,
