My old table wasn't bad, exactly. But PO had run screws through the table and sticking out of the top in a couple places. So I needed my own.
Birch plywood from Lowes for $15 for a 2x4 ft of 3/4".
The grain is sweet.
I used a Skil "Wood - Smooth Cut" jigsaw blade on my craptastic Black and Decker jigsaw. I love a clean cut.
Blue linseed oil based stain from Ikea like 7 years ago. Going for a "blue wash" effect. Seems to be working... This is before I wiped it down.
Before I left Cali I went around Huntington Beach collecting stickers. I'd forgotten how much those stupid stores charge for the things.. This pic is of them laid out how I want to stick 'em.
All stuck on:
Then I poured on a clear epoxy coat. This kit was $17 at Home Depot. All I did was mix the two halves together, pour them on, and use a large plastic drywall spatula to spread it evenly.
No pics yet of the finished product. Waiting for the epoxy to cure...
UPDATE:
Here's the table with the epoxy. It's still not cured completely, but I suppose taking a pic isn't going to hurt.

A guy on Anandtech sent this to me:
| Quote: |
BOWLING FOR SOUP - Surf Colorado Lyrics
I saw you there
Your long brown hair
Falling on your face the way it used to fall on mine
At one time
A long time ago
I still remember everything you said to me that night
It's too bad and it's too late
You were such a big mistake
Please don't call here anymore
I used to miss you
[Chorus]
There's no surfin Colorado anyway
And it's a shame to hear you're happy and you still look at me
that way
There's no surfin Colorado anyway, yeah
She never waved to me or said "good Bye"
One night she just left me and her behind
There she goes
And no one knows
What she does to my heart, still, she'll never know
How we speak
Across the room
Eye to eye she's holding him, holding me soon
It's too bad and it's too late
Was it such a big mistake?
You don't call me anymore
And I still miss you
[Chorus]
Remember the first time
God Damn we got so high
She held me so close that I thought that I might break
And know she's a mile high
And I'm on Texas time
She traded rattlesnakes for bunny runs in Colorado Springs
[Chorus]

Don,
Awesome table.
But wow! Someone mentioned Wahoo's and I instantly started having a Pavlovian moment.
Almost every Saturday morning from 1993-1996 saw me and my buds cruising down to the Laguna Beach (we lived in North Laguna) Wahoo's for "brunch and beers" and then traversing back to Main Beach and our comfy barstools at The Marine Room. Then it was snifters of Patron until we fell off the barstools around 1:30 a.m. and stumbled up the hill to our casa of ill repute.
Happily enough, we have a place here in Charleston (SC) that makes "almost" as good food...So Cal Burrito. We had Fish Tacos for lunch today, and they were good enough to make me homesick!
Any how...GREAT table!
Anton

Take the edging off the table, and cover it with new laminate. Trim it, and reinstall the edge trim.
I've seen a couple of tables covered with travel stickers and sealed with some kind of clear film... looked kind of cool, but a little too hippy-ish for my taste. _________________ 1994 Dodge Neon w/supercharged 1500dp

The edging is coming off my table so when I fix it Im going to put a puzzle on the top.
My daughter bought one of those "Find the Object" puzzles and it is the perfect size for the table. I'll decoupage the puzzle and then put a clear film over it so you can circle the objects and wipe it off.
The one puzzle has about 100 objects to find so it should keep someone busy for awhile. |

| not sure why, but I can't see any pics, though based on previous postings, it seems that others do. Have they been de-linked or is my computer wonky (to use a technical term)? |

Someone rip off your TS sticker? You did mean to put one on, right?
I'm guessing the look your little sweetie is giving you is prompted by the command, "SMILE!," after you've dragged her away from her dress up party. _________________ WTB swivel table hdwr.

jerry's70westy-
Other than just slapping on a piece of Formica, I finished a small end table by gluing a Nat'l Geographic map to the top and shellacking it.
I collected 1/8" x 18" x 18" sheets of packing cork from a corkboard manuf., cut them to small rectangles and glued a parque-type top on a coffee table. No more problem with coasters; The whole table was a coaster.
Know anyone working with veneers? Collect scraps from them and make an inlaid design using different grains & colors of wood. Do the same with Formica. Ask someone who remodels kitchens for scraps.
Browse a hobby shop for table top materials. Get creative. Good luck. _________________ WTB swivel table hdwr.
