Hey,
I've got a 71 squareback that I've been workin on for a while, and it's about done, so I'm gonna be sellin it soon. I've got a friend who's never had a volkswagen but is interested. What he and I want to know is how similar is a type three compared to a type one? Is the front end the same? Would a narrowed bug front beam or bug dropped spindles work on a type three? Are the brakes similar? I've never had a bug before so I can't help him so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

the beam on a Type 3 is both completely different and superior to the beam on a Type 1. A narrowed bug beam would work, but you would have to do a major engineering/install job....
some of the brake parts a similar, but the rotor and calipers are different.. _________________ póg mo thóin

do they make narrowed beams or dropped spindles for type threes? That's the main thing. My friend and I just want to know if they are similar to work on or if parts are available for type threes before he decides to buy it. |

nope - no narrowed beams -- the front beams are adjustable, don't need dropped spindles... _________________ póg mo thóin

Yes they do make narrowed beams for Type 3's ! www.Kustomcoachworks.com Will hook U up!
As for the dropped spindles You can get them at http://www.airkewld.com/pages/welcome.php
A type 3 is The best Dubb around In my opinion! But not as much stuff to buy for mods and Bugs! _________________ 79 baywindow , 18" rims TypeIV approx 115hp 115tq.

It is not a type three beam. What I have read about it is that it is not bolted on to your pan as secure as a stock type 3 beam. |

I gotta agree with that. My friend wants to buy the car, but I think that I want to keep it now. I'm not sure. |
