You kinda lost me on saving the door handles. You mean flip them over and move them to the other side of the door? If your going to go suicide why not shave the handles on go to selenoids? The kits are getting very cheap. Push a button the door pops.... _________________ The honey-do list put my project on hold....... |

You have to be careful on which hinge kit you get. Most of them are designed to be universal, but our VW Beetle 'B' posts are thinner then most other cars. Meaning you'll have to modify the bottom of the B pillar on the inside for the hinge to fit in. This may interfer with the rear 1/4 windows to wind up/down on too.

go there for my install, though my project isn't the best example to use for all VWs as it's highly modified and hinges aren't install in where most people would in their Bug.

Here's 1 kit I just found a few days ago, maybe good for a VW as it's not as deep.
It's not easy to do this mod so not for the newbie welders, keep that in mind. I highly HIGHLY recommend getting a pre-alligned hinge kit (both hinges welded together already), if both hinges aren't perfectly parallel with each other the door will bind when opening or closing the door, meaning it won't open/close correctly. It will save you hours and hours of getting it in just right, well worth the few extra bucks. |
