I recently stepped from the type 1 light and into the dark type 3 side with a swap. On the receiving end I got a '70 fasty in faded clemintine. Motor and tranny out as well as the seats. I was told that the car was a european model due to the door window visors and gravel guards behind the rear wheels. I thought yea maybe but then I noticed the ring on the ignition lock in german. Any thoughts? _________________ James |

Gravel guards were a dealer option. And as for the german on the switch, The latches for the engine cover say "AUF" and "ZU" . Open and close.
If the car is Fuel injection, it was a US/Canada model. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

Fuel injection was also available as an option in European markets. Decklid emblem would've been 1600 TLE.
T3 experts: Did Euro models also get IRS starting '69 with all transmissions, or once again just the USA like on Type 1s? If your Fasty has a swingaxle rear suspension, then it definitely was for a non-US market.
Is there a sticker in the fuel filler flap as to the language? Gasoline = "Benzin" in German. Is the speedo in kilometers or mph? Owner's manual? Is there a long, narrow sticker on the driver's door post showing the chassis# in perforations, and the production month/year? That label was only needed on US models. If not there, with no evidence (brighter paint) of it applied, that is also a good indication it was not destined originally for the USA.
Are the taillight lenses amber on the top portion? US lenses got all red, although you certainly can buy Euro lenses for a US car from aftermarket. |

Check the front turn signals. If there are two bulbs in there it's probably US. Check the turn signal bulb itself. Dual filiment, US, single filiment, euro. Here's some pics:
