I put these on mine and like them a lot. My speedo is spot on with my GPS as well. No complaints at all. (I've since gone to white rims)

What size tire did you have before you went to the 205? Could you tell the differance in the ride at all? Also how off was your speedo? Thanks for the help! I am about to spend over a G in tires and don't want to mess it up. Don't mean to be pushy. |
Just got it on the road recently, never drove it before. Speedo is broken _________________ EMPI Power Rules! |

Yea, but is that tire at least "C' or better yet, "D" rated sidewalls? If they are normal passenger tires, they are probably unsafe on a heavier, higher-centered Transporter. VW engineers specified "C" and "D" rated 6 or 8 ply tires, not 2 or 4 plies. Be safe! The Hankook RA-08'S in 14" are great tires. I run them on my heavy '87 Westy. Great sidewall plies and strength.

Even with the exact same tire diameter that your bus had when it left the factory, don't expect your speedo to be correct. They are often way off. My 65 Riviera with a tire that was nearly 2" smaller in diameter than a stock tire was nearly dead on with the speedo and odo. (GPS verified) These things lose their calibration with age. _________________ nothing |

I just put 205/75 r14 on my 1969 Kombi.
I got it for $55 a piece from Walmart and got a local garage to put them
on because Walmart couldn't balance them. The are rated at 1521 pounds
per tire.
My Kombi is entirely stock and untouched, except for a spare tire mounted
to the front of the bus and a hitch bolted to the back.
I have had no issues with rubbing or hitting fenders, I've bottomed it out
a few times while turning and no problem. They say the wider tire is harder
to steer but I couldn't tell. I had previously 186 R14 rated at 1530 pounds.
I wanted to try a common tire because if they work ok, and cost effective, then why not. I hadn't driven the bus for 2 years at least so it only gets about 500 miles on per year. I will repost if I have any problems.
Douglas Xtra Trac II Tire 205/75R14 95S 1521 pounds 55.50 205/75-14 6.1in 13.1in 26.1in 82.0in 773 2.3% difference from 195/75r14 (from tire calculator)
Anyhow, I've read tons about different tires etc and how you need to get a close to the original as you can. However, I don't think changes of 2-3% really should have a whole lot of effect. If so, that's pretty bad engineering. But as little as I drive, I'm not so worried about it.[/quote] |

Heavier, no. Potentially heavier, yes. Higher center of gravity and roll center, yes. Normal passenger cars have been quite heavy for sometime now.
I went with Hankook RA 08 in 195/14 size for steering response and feel, above all. Speedometer is accurate, steering is good for and old jalopy. |

I think 195R14 would fit the bill without going overboard, and is what I plan on to put on my '64 Deluxe. I had a set on my '84 Westy with very good results.

I've had these on my bus for about 10 years. I love them, but they're pretty tall and they rub the front tubs of my [drop spindle] equipped bus.
I love the way they handle though.
I've considered raising by bus back to stock height though.
(it won't fit in the garage at stock height with my roof rack) _________________ "Saying what we think gives us a wider conversational range than saying what we know."

My speedometer never more than 1mph off. If speedometer reads 65mph on the bus, the gps will either read 65 or 66.

Victorun 922C from China
195/R14C
25.5" tall, 7.25" wide, 1985lb load rated
$300/4 installed and out the door
I've had Victoruns on my Chevy work van for better part of a year and they are decent economy grade street tires. |

Those look like a nice tire but they are still more than an inch shorter than stock. Not a big deal but something to consider. Where did you find them for that price installed? _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

The 25.5" was on a loaded bus at 30psi
I measured the spare at 26" at 35psi
They go to 55psi for max load.
Earlier in this thread someone mentioned stock was 26.25(+/-.25)" so they are not that short. Definitely taller than the previous 185/R14's that were on there.
I am not putting them out there as the best tire you can buy, but I doubt you will find a closer to stock sized load rated tire for that kind of money. $300 installed and out the door for 4, $375 for 5. Supplied and installed by an independent (hole-in-the-wall) place in south Sacramento called "Tire Stop". |

According to this stock was 26.8"
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/50_67_bus...perial.jpg
That said, those are close and are definitely cheaper than anything else
Out there. I'm going to check with my local guy to see if he can get them. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

Victorun makes 205 and larger sizes too, but then they drop out of the metric aspect ratio and you have 205/75/R14 and the like which makes for a pretty wide tire. I like the option of running chains without smacking the spring plates so that restricts me to the metric aspect tires.
If I had the extra cash I would have bought bias ply... |

Those are really nice tires. Will they fit in the spare tire section of a walk thru bus? _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

Yes. I was going to delete the post because I realized they aren't big like 7.00X14 which is the thread title but now I'll leave it.
Cost was $510 with mount, stems, balance, and carcass and EPA and ... plus I paid $10/tire to Ride-Match each one so $550 total. |

why would you delete it? 185/14 is the official replacement size for 7.00/14s, even though they are much smaller in diameter _________________ regards
