I picked these up at the classic pretty cheap. Anybody know what they are? Cheap enough that I took a chance they would look cool on my car once it gets here, but it's not here so I don't know if they will even fit...

Any info would be appreciated. They are GHE stamped. One is a different depth than the others, so I do need one more of either deep or shallow to make a full or staggered set

Is the red a separate ring behind the aluminum where it shows through the "holes" in the aluminum?

If so, I believe the OG rings were black. They were an accessory in the early 60's. Like this:

holy crap. so you could get red or black (rot or schwarz), karoblende = checked trim. that makes sense, there is no plastic insert, it's thin red paint. Also looks like these were the more expensive set, and I'm guessing ab 1952 means fits after october 1952, which would make sense - 53 started 15's instead of 16's right?

in2vw's, you truly do have it all in accessory documentation. thank you!

Just remember that the Type 1 trims are different to the Type 3 due to the different offsets, so these won't fit a stock type 34 ghia if that is your plan Wink

Is it the shallower outer edge that lets it work on a type 3? Like I said, I have 3 that are deeper, one that is more shallow.

I did take some brasso and polished them up, they look way nicer clean

The Type 1 beetle have ET 34mm and the type 3 / ghias have ET 46mm, so there is a 12mm difference. The outer edge always sits within the rim edge, and the centre hole sits flush near the bolt holes.
The beetle ones inner face is 12mm further away/ deeper from the outer edge to account for the smaller offset. If you put Type 1 trims on the Type 3 rim they don't fit properly and sit 12mm away from the outer edge, found this out the hard way when I bought some aftermarket reproduction dress rings that were sold as fitting type 3 wheels Sad
