Here is my thread about my baja. i finally decided to stop being lazy and make it a full description of my car. So here goes.
the car is a 71 superbeetle. the engine is a supercharged 3.8 V6 from a Ford Tbird. the engine is rated for 215hp stock, so im probably around 250 right now. the motor is mated to a stock 091 bus trans with a kennedy adapter and flywheel. The trans is in with the cheapo kit that puts the shift rod over the tunnel. the axles are swayaway. clutch is a kennedy stage 3, with a heavy duty disk. the radiator is mounted in the trunk, with the stock fan from the bird, its rated for like 3000cfm, moves plenty of air. radiator lines are run under the car, with 1x2 rectangular steel tubing. for rear suspension im running stock arms, boxed. shocks are bilstein 7100s with reservoirs. mounted to the cage. once the front end is done the rear will get a little more extreme. front suspension is stock super, lifted. it sucks. the car is actually hard to drive, not safe. so now im trying to find a l/p beam to put in it. i may end up going with longer arms when i convert, depends how much money i have saved up by then. the car is in the process of being fully caged, thats getting close to done.

One of the better watercooled conversions I have seen! But I do feel bad for your rear suspention! Having to carry that heavy v6 around. To each his own but I still can't really stomach a non VW engine in a VW. But that said it looks kinda cool and alot better than a 2.3 Pinto powerplant. _________________ "So we went for a spin in the country

just thought id post some pics of what ive done recently
boxed trailing arm, not painted yet, no lower shock mount yet
shock mounted, for everyone to see.
notice the tires wont rub the fenders anymore, thanks to 30mm torsions.
engine cage almost done
i just need to cut off the tubes that stick up, and put some kind of cool looking hoop there. and mount some tailights on it, so i can get these stock ones off before my fenders break..
quick pic of my seats
and i got them for $50!!! just made some brackets and welded them to the stock frames. now i just need to make the passenger one flip so ican get behind it without taking it all the way out.
so, thats about where it sits. now i have the blower and fuel injection torn off to find a fuel deliver problem. i have at least one injector that is sticking and flooding out the engine. (might be time for some big injectors ) |

Slick setup!
That's pretty much what I'm planning for my baja's radiator, only maybe hidden under a wing like the Manxter DS:
Do you need a hoop from that rear cage to support the radiator? |

that's why you were asking about twin turbos? for fuel efficiency? _________________ 1967 Zenith Blue Type 1 "Elaine"

thats not a radiator. its an intercooler for the supercharger. if you look, the radiator lines run under the car. the rad is in the trunk.
i did have to cut the firewall, i only really needed an extra inch or two, but my new one is about 4-5 inches back for clean, covered mounting of sensors and stuff. |

Of course it's for fuel efficiency! You mean a turbo's gonna make it go down?! |

today i finished the back half of my cage, except for seat belt mounts.
dont mind the mess, or uh, wiring. it still needs redone.
i also got my front hoops welded in. still need a brace under the dash and above the windsheild.
i also messed around in the mud a little.
i know i didnt do as near as much as jowlz, but i did get some stuff done. |

just a question. Are these top tubes in the pic but jointed?
If they are that's a pretty bad idea and should be re-thought. If you still want to keep it that way you should at lest sleeve them. _________________ is it time to get out of the dirt and switch to the street? |
