Own a 62 Bug with original 1200. Wondering how to get some more power out of it. I understand that you can install Big Bore 83mm pistons/cylinders instead of the stock 77mm. Should you then add a larger carb? Do they have a slightly larger cam? Can you remove the 90mm distributor and add a 009? Then I could add electronic ignition for better response. Don't want to spend the large amount for a Judson.

Glutamodo will wander by at some point and probably tell you the same thing...

Judson or Okrasa, but both are BIG bucks.

Even with a 50% increase in horse power, you're only talking about 60hp.

some more 1200 threads:

And yeah, i echo that, "why?" comment. Unless the old distributor was junk, there won't be much or any difference when you go to an 009. on a 40HP motor it won't be as big of difference as on the later models, but the 009's often run worse than the stock distributors.
