Its all very complicated Confused

Taller gears means a higher speed at the same rpm, but the demand for torque at the say 50mpg is now more as the engine has less leverage, so it makes more heat does to needing to a higher load.
Now through in the equation that when making your gears longer your fan now spins slowers.

So we have more power demand = more heats and less fan rpm = less cooling.

This is like the old argument of does a freeway flyer trans/ratios make you run hot etc.

The only way to realy know is to try it, be a pioneer. Very Happy

Remember thought where not driving in a vacuum, the wind resistance is a hugh factor and the bus hits quite bad aerodynamic wall at 60mph where a great deal more Hp is required each 5mph you then go faster than that.

Its interesting when you asks alot of these questions that alot of the people out there that straight axel etc have no idea what there new gearbox ratios are in relation to stock and what there rolling tyre radius;s are compared to stock.

For example our friewnd above, hase not worked out his new tyre size compared to stock and the klm to mph conversion.

I say go for it just be conservative with thuse tall gears.

keith Very Happy

If it's torque you need, that's exactly what supercharging will give you.

Forget top speed, it's not really important, the ability to maintain speed is. Torque will give you that ability, reduction boxes or no reduction boxes.

Cheers Damon
but the whole reason I'm into BD's is cause of the Judson Laughing

A 356 motor would be cool but unless its a givaway then its a no no

There’s more to a Judson than the speed. I ran mine on an SP 1600. Performance was little better but then I wasn’t over revving so I never saw much boost on the gauge.

What you do get is a great looking period engine bay and that fantastic compressor sound.

Give me about 4 months and i'll let you know!!!... I have the 30/36hp OG engine, the judson and the 54 panel to throw it all into... its just going for paint soon.. .. but I will be running reduction boxes though.. Cool

55 is a great speed and plenty enough for motorway cruising... usually cruise at 55-60 in my 58 2007cc powered bus... great mpg!..
