I'm thinking of purchasing a 64 ghia that is in very good condition other than the pictures posted. i was wondering if the rust damage was too bad to be fixed with conventional body work. i would like to avoid taking a cutting torch or welding and body panels.my budget for body work is also >$2000. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Forget buying a 40+ year old VW if you are skeered to weld! Wink
You will be finding/buying/shipping/welding sections like this:

If you don't know how to weld and don't understand the repair of complicated vehicle structures, you'll be at the mercy of a repair shop.
You will NOT find a run-of-the-mill bodyshop capable of repairing that Ghia the right way.
$2000 is not much once you get into rust repair.

anything can be fixed, but what you are seeing is just the outter layer....wait till you get inside Twisted Evil that's (litterally) where the money's at
