Just wondering, but what do you guys do for the mating surfaces? Make them clean as hell and slap it together, or do you put in some liquid gasket like stuff?

I use Permatex Aviation sealer on the case halves.

If that's silicone, no.
Use Permatex Aviation sealer like Dave suggested.
That is the only thing I've ever used.

you have to have a non harding sealant. silicon will harden and may prevent the case from seating correctly. This in turn will affect bearing crush.

Best thing is to get both case halfs clean and use a thin coat of aviation sealer. although they do make a non harding silcon sealant that you can use. I used it before , but it's real greasy and I didn't like it.

I think that's the Permatex name for the "Hondabond" stuff. I wouldn't suggest using that stuff because once its together it just flat doesn't want to come apart. I would be afraid of braking the case when trying to split the halves.

Ya, stay away from that "Yamabond" stuff. You dam near have to machine it off. Aviation "Form-a-Gasket" is what I use on all my cases. Never leeks.

"Moust use Curl-2..."

SeVVenth, "vics" meant Curil-2. Might not find it in a better auto supply store if you don't have it spelled right.

Also consider "Hylomar", which I've used recently with success, but I've only built about ten engines; the other fellas probably tens of dozens and can therefore observe the results of their sealants quicker than I can with mine.
