Should I try to taper the holes in my stock Kinpin spindles with a file and drill bits so the ford tie rod ends will fit or should I just dish out the 70 bucks or however much it is for heim ends and the misalignment adapters, if I can find some that will fit the ford threads in my tie rods.
This was really poor planning on my part because I had to have disk brakes up front and the combo spindles use those darn balljoint backing plates Sad

Thanks for the return pm shmo.

If you have the same tie rods that I used as a model they will take 5/8" 18 thread if I remember correctly. That would mean 5/8" heims.

I sacrificed the disk brakes up front and went combo. I reasoned that most of the weight of my Baja is in the rear..so I went disk rear with drums up front. Someone could make a fortune making a disk brake set up that wasnt $700. As I would go that route if the cost wasnt so crazy.

I would drill and taper the holes out in your spindles and give the Ford ends a go if you have them. If you dont like something about the fit..switch to heims. I think you will still have to drill out the spindles to accomodate the hardware with 5/8" heims.

My memory isn't the greatest and I would have to look at what I have at the house..but this seems right to me.

Yea your right. I remember the other thread now. I will still need to drill out the spindle for the 5/8th heim but the benefit would be that I would not need to taper the hole and the heim would be a better fit but of course I would need to sink even more money into my baja........errr......parking lot baja. lol.

And, you don't have to drill out the steering arm as large as you might think. There are high misaleignment adapters that can accept 1/2 stud to 5/8 heims. Furthermore, there are adapaters that can go directly from a tapered mount to a heim, basically that route is a direct bolt in. Something to think about.
