I know there are a lot of you out there. There are some nice vans rolling around Santa Cruz. If you live in SC give a shout. |

I'm a wannabe. I live on the west side. I borrowed my friend's for a bluegrass festival and now I'm thinking of maybe getting my own. |

Ok I'll bite, just moved into town with my 2 87 dokas, one syncro and one 2wd.
You may have seen them being towed!
One is undergoing a subie conversion and the other made it to Eugene before a head issue roared it's .. well you get the point.
looking for a cheap used 2.1 for the syncro to hold me over before it gets a TD or TDI in the future.

I think that the problem is that there are so many in Santa Cruz that it doesn't make sense to try to call folks out.
When looking for a thread like this I found one that was titled something like "How come Westy owners in Santa Cruz don't wave". _________________ '84 Wolfsburg Westfalia

I waved at 3 vanagon drivers in town last weekend. That is probably the most in a year that I have waved to in town but they were friendly and I wasn't going to snub them. There are well over a half dozen within a block of me(i can see 3 from the driveway) so seeing them is normal around here.
On trips out of town i regularly give and get the wave or a nod and the kids think it is funny.
There is a casual get together in south city this weekend if you want to meet some friendly bay area vanagon owners http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=604223 |

Hi all,
New to the crew!! Not quite Santa Cruz; live in Scotts Valley. Have lived in Santa Cruz County for 50 years though...
Picked up an '80 Vanagon camper (Country Homes Camper, built in Scotts Valley!!) a couple of weeks ago. Nobody has seen it yet 'cuz it doesn't run. I've got a line for an 'experienced' engine out of an '82 (in Santa Cruz) soon. I've bought an engine stand so that once the 'old/original' engine comes out, I can tear into it to replace and rebuild as needed. Then, the original goes back in. _________________ BigPapaYams (aka JAY)

I might run my diesel-powered Caddy up there to "check in" with some folks and get a look at some of the other Vanagons around. I've owned a bunch of VWs over the years (more than 30 VWs of all models, shapes and sizes) and am "getting back into the scene". _________________ BigPapaYams (aka JAY)
