i've had my 71 squareback since 1999. i got a sweet deal on it. ran good. cool looking. painted it. reupholstered it. got it looking cool.
in 2001 i replaced the fuel pump. it was defective and gave out after a few weeks. i got another one. and it was ok. then it crapped out also, last year. so the new fuel pump was ok and the car has been good for the most part. now to my problems...
it starts on the first try just about everytime. however, if i ride around town for a bit, like say anymore than 20 minutes, and i stop and try to start her again too soon, she wont start. like if i ride across town, go to the store for a few minutes and try to start it up, it wont start. it'll take me like 5 minutes of sitting there turning my key and trying and trying. its like it'll want to start but then it wont get fuel. and i'll have to pump the gas and fight to keep her alive. if i let it sit for an hour or so, i can go out and it will start on the first try. (like it does every morning when i go to school)
ive never heard of a car that wouldnt start while "hot".
also, my fuel guage went weird on me. if i fill it up, it marks it at 3/4 . do i have to take out my fuel tank to fix that sensor or whatever?
lets see... what else....
oh, cosmetically. where can i get aftermarket bumpers? my rear one is all crappy and i dont really wanna go stock. do those ghia ones from vwinnovations fit? i think i read that they did. they look smooth.
so my main problem is the warm starts.
by the way... i wanna keep my fuel injection. i'm hoping it isnt a really big problem...
thanks in advance

Check the basic ignition and valve adjustment settings first before assuming it's an injection problem. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

cars can not start sometimes from being to hot, cant say for FI cars but my fastback hasnt started before after being to hot, it depends how you drive, i did a 20 min drive at a constant sorta 85-90mph down the motorways, then drove through town a bit quick, dropped mate off it, turned engine off it wouldnt start, because as soon as the fuel hit the carbs it was evaporating straight away
and there was that time when i melted my engine, that took 3 hours to start
do what tram said first then maybe have a look at the pump and maybe the sender unit, if all else fails shout at it really loudly |

hey shouting and beating them with tools work,
couldnt get the fan off my old engine, so shouted at it threw a lump hammer at it, and it just fell off
engine wouldnt drop in shouted at it, kicked the exahust and it fell straight into place |
