7 including the 2 I still have in my driveway.
Here they are in order. The last 2 I still own.
85 Mexican Beetle when I was 17 (really neat car)
Don't have a pic of this one
69 Standard Bug: I owned this car in my late teens in CA. It was an original paint rust free car. I'd love to have it back (Daily Driver)
71 Red Super Vert: Daily Driver
66 White Ghia coupe: Bought it for $200 but it was too rusted for my meager welding knowledge of the time so I never got it on the road. Of all my cars this one was probably my favorite.
74 Black, then primer grey Ghia Coupe. Bought for $400 with a blown engine but complete. Took the 1600 DP that came with the 66, rebuilt it, and put it in the 74. Drove it for 3 or 4 years occasionally.
72 Black, now Yellow Super: Bought for $500 running and fairly complete. Still have this car and put the engine that had been in the 74 Ghia in it. It runs very nicely. Needs some body work, but still a very fun car. Reminds me a lot of the 69 I miss so much.
71 White Ghia Coupe: This is THE car that got me into VWs to begin with. My father bought it in 1980 in Hollywood CA, where it spent most of it's life. This year he gave it to me and I had it transported here. I'm still working on cleaning it up, and powder coating the wheels so it's not done in this pic.

Need to amend this. Since I posted this I've owned a 67 Bug the I never finished, a 71 Super I'm still working on, and bought my wife a 73 Thing

First car, '65 Bug, 40 horse 1200, FiberFab scoops front and rear...
'60 36 horse for a week, then various 1500 & 1600 as needed.
'66 SB, 1600S, Mom bought it in Germany and gave it to me with 186K on it.
'64 Bus 1600 Had to hold it in 4th and keep pass. door tied shut by the time I sold it...
'55 Mango with every piece of the interior intact, outside was brush painted brighter green and silver on top! Had to give it up due to back problems...
'65 Bug Rust bucket, came with Lady Bug spots and antenna, after a parade.
'66 Bug Built a fresh 1300, wrecked by wife. 1300 went into the '64 bus a year while I saved up for the 1600.
'65 Bug Had to Baja due to a sandwich accident before I got it. Same 1300 that had been in the wrecked '66 a year, then the '64 Bus for a year, ran for another 10 in this car...
'69 Ghia Cab, still have it, in the middle of a re-paint, primer went on about 10 years back...
'74 SB Vert, put a new top on and basically rebuilt everything.
At this point I went into VW-Porsche 914 land in a big way, I've had six and still have 2, one of which is running great with a 2056, the other is 3/4 converted to electric. |

My dad had a '56 import oval with semaphores & bullet turn signals from around 60-62, to this day if I smell ether it will remind me of this car as he'd need to hit the carb with a blast of it to start it in -10 F temperatures & he had a '60 13 window bus, and had brand new '63 Bug.
I've owned a '64 bug (in 1974) and drove it until it quit about 3 and a half years later....best car I'll ever own. NEVER got stuck in it and I had plenty of opportunities
And a '62 Ghia Coupe I still own and drive every day....LOVE it! _________________ "A camel is a horse designed by a Committee" |
