This is on display at a VW dealership in Toronto. The plate frame says '53. The rest, however, says '68ish.

I don't get the "pulmonia" label on the side. That means pneumonia in Spanish.

In Mazatlan they're called that because on a cold day you can catch pneumonia while riding in one.
They're sort of a fiberglass Thing body that goes on a bug pan.

That so-called grill insert appears to be painted wood (or cardboard), but at least that (and the story at the site this pic came from) tells us that the (probably) fiberglass hood is only there for looks, so we don't have to worry about a V8 lurking under there! XD Another thing I notice, is the externally mounted horn- another Ford item, perhaps? Lastly, as this image is titled 'bug_ford', I'd call this beast Buford!  |

Looks to me that what you are seeing inside the fiberglass hood/grill shell is the shape of the bug hood behind some 1/4" hardware cloth.
