VolksWorld did a great article on it in the last year. It ended getting bought by Tamiya Japan, and sits in their show room. It IS a fully functioning model. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Agreed, it definitely looks like fun. Any more pics of it? |
I'm afraid not. In the thread where this picture appears someone said they had more but never posted them. It's been reposted on Pinterest a bunch of times but no other angles.

Wow, yeah. Efficient and very painful way to die. Though, maybe the one good idea that design could have is that it only goes 5 mph. |
That Mazda rotary probably can push it to lethal speeds which, with that steering , probably begin at 10MPH! |

I like caliper and disc used for a drive-line brake, that's some optimism!
It's strange though, I went to the site that hosts the image, and I can't find the context! All I can find is references to this ordinary rail-
Never-mind, found it- http://www.smbaker.com/sand-rail/misc/junk-yard-dog-mazda-sandrail-project
The purple one is in a private album, so no luck there. The image name- 67bus100 doesn't seem that useful, unless it's a username somewhere. |

I especially like the impending doom look of driving that thing with shorts, sandals, and T-shirt. I don't guess the steering has to be all that good considering he can only turn it a few degrees before the back of the tire hits the the frame. Looks like a before shot of a Darwin Awards entry! _________________ scrapyards are for quitters

FUN! Looks nuckin' futz! I'd have to relocate the battery though. A bump into something, even at walking speed, would shower the driver with acid.

If nothing else, you've got to admire his determination to kill himself. Here's text from the build thread, below. If at first you don't succeed in bodily harm, try, try again
Test Run:
The test run was a great success…. At least for a while. I powered up the go-kart and drove through my neighborhood to the nearest empty field. Along the way, there were lots of started looks from the neighbors wondering what that ugly noisy machine was rumbling down the street.
When we got to the field, I made a couple of high-speed (well about 20-40mph) passes down the grass before all hell broke loose. The first thing was to happen was the hub on the front “wheelbarrow tire” broke, and the tire fell off. Not a real good thing….
Replaced the tire, and the next thing that happened was kaboom! a large jet of superheated steam from the radiator (rule #1: If you use an inverter to run your 110V water pump, make sure to turn it on!)
Okay, got that fixed and promptly got stuck in a ditch… Finally managed to limp to gokart home before yet another radiator steam episode (rule #2: make sure to follow rule #1 about turning on the water pump; it really is important)
So, the junkyard dog go-kart is currently awaiting a heavier front end with some better tires, and a mechanical water pump. |

If he would chop a zero off the price and roll it over to the west coast I would be tempted to fix it up. A shorty single cab pickup would be cool! _________________

I'm guessing the battery is up there to ad some weight to the front. Wouldn't be a bad idea to build some sort of battery box and clean up front end. That being said that thing is sweet. _________________ Jonathan

Those bumpers'll be gone the first time a fool tries to tow it or pull it loose should it get stuck. |

Front bumper doesn't look too bad but the back ones need some help. And the paint just doesn't look good on a newer vehicle. |

the juxtapostion of the ratty exterior next to the stock new car interior look like ass. Personally i hate it. Good work, bad taste. |
