I like it. There is something "photoshop-ish" about the picture, but it may just be the low quality. _________________ nothing |

Isn't this one front engined? It uses an aircooled type 1 engine hooked up to a modified bell housing that uses a shaft sent to a modified bus transaxle. _________________ Signed by the rather insane, ambitious, and very stubborn Darko |

I agree but, it doesn't look like you could actually drive it if you are more than 5 feet tall.

If you look closely the "frame" of this is cut from single sheets of 3/4" plywood. All of the grain runs front to back regardless of if it is a rail or stile. The whole thing is probably held together with either nails, staples or drywall screws. _________________ Chris

I like the concept, but the rear woody bodywork should be curved to match the apron and bumper. That was likely beyond the skills of the builder. |

I reckon that was a pretty straight late 60's bug before it got bastardised. _________________

Some think that if your beetle has a padded dash, it's an engine donor. Some think that if it has push button door handles, it's a boat anchor.

This is the basic "Stevenson" woodie plans build. They pop up on occasion. You only needed basic tools, couple sheets of plywood and some dimensional lumber. The plans were designed for a home handyman with limited skills and resources to build their own woodie in a few weekends. The problem with these is that you can bandaid it a little, but to make it look decent, you end up pretty much scrapping a lot of it and redoing it using dimensional lumber instead of plywood.
The rear end treatment is "as designed" and there is logic to why it was done that way - dont want to go into details. I dont like it, but there are valid reasons.
There are a handful of these that were very well executed and are really nice cars, but most are like this one or worse. It is what it is.....
But its not this LOL.....

Oh, the reasons are obvious, a simple opening rear hatch, access to the engine, etc. Still I would love to see a rounded tail to match the bumper, something along this line:

In an odd way I kinda like this one.
I would never splurge the money it took to build it, but if it was cheap enough... I'd take it for a spin around the block. _________________ '70 Porsche 911T Targa (sold)

It was built using all used parts and sections. It's a local car and it's actually nice. _________________ Save a tree eat a beaver |

Would suggest going to the volksrods site - the tranny set up has been covered a bit. Saw a similar car a couple years ago at a show and it was prety cool the way they do it. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.
