I thought it was a bit of deva vu - yeah - saw that on Volksrods..... I probably commented on it there as well....LOL. I love a car where it initially grabs you by the balls and then the more you look at it, you keep finding all these cool details. Your car is loaded with them... Love it

Just wanted to say thanks to Whozawhat for documenting that build. I just finished reading it and it is impressive to say the least. Was kind of surprised that you sold it and really understand the mixed feelings you must have had. It's obvious you've got skills and really enjoy the build. Only so much time, money and garage space. Not so sure the new owners idea of doing a motorcycle engine swap is warranted, you hit the mark. But I guess a car like that probably inspires folks. Cool Thanks again.

I am kind of funny in that I never sell any of my cars that I built, but I understand selling. My wife and I drive the hell out of her 61 bug and my 65 bug, but the VW woodie and the buggie tend to sit most of the time. They were a blast to build and once the bug hearse is done, it will hit some shows and all, but wont be driven much either. The design and the build is the most fun for me. So - I am stuck with just keeping on building cars and building and/or buying more garage space to fit them all in. Laughing

The only way this car would work for me would be to have the engine in the front so you don't have the engine hanging way out the back. It's too short to go mid engine so front would be the only option. Perhaps you could put a Golf engine and tranny in the back as another option if you didn't care about keeping it an air cooled car.

Thanks, glad you liked it.
If I kept everything I've built I would need a much bigger place and real estate is kind of pricey in this neck O' the woods..

those were off the shelf fiberglass fenders that you could buy in the 80's. The back lights were Chevy Vega. I think there was a version with two lights per fender too. The front headlights were Chevy Vega as well.

They might have been made by Creative Car Craft but I am thinking it was one of the other fiberglass part companies.

Some think that if your beetle has a padded dash, it's an engine donor. Some think that if it has push button door handles, it's a boat anchor.
Do what you want. Ignore the elitists. Drive your VW. Enjoy life.

A friend just sent this to me. It's probably an old pic, but who knows. I love the 959, but I just can't figure out if I like this conversion or hate it. It looks like whoever did this actually did do a decent job. Just needs a little TLC. Even cleaned up, though..... is it cool? Very few of us could afford a real 959 (or even find one for sale), so is this a reasonable compromise?

I know there are 959 kits for 993's, but is this a homemade beetle 959 kit?

A good looking car is all about proportions. VWs are just to tall to look good as a fake Porsche. Maybe if you chop the top and section about 6" to 12" out of the sides a bolt on Porsche could be made that would look OK. Otherwise they just look like crap.
